Often a creative’s dilemma is about prioritising development phases of different projects especially when dependant on others for manufacturing. Shadowline™ has its origins is one such story. Bringing ideas to reality using third party services was a constant struggle.

Beautiful designs have details that bring about a personality to furniture. Design details should not be diluted to ease the manufacturer’s efforts or to speed up production;  a dissatisfying compromise faced by every designer.

We grew restless and decided to change how furniture is made in India; we vowed to never change the designs to ease production or to cut our costs. Instead we find the best possible method to produce a piece, even if it takes extra efforts on our end. The resulting furniture piece is always true to its vision. This was only possible as a unified design and production house.

We use advanced machinery to achieve precision, and reliable raw materials from around the globe for premium quality. We spent our first 18 months developing and perfecting samples for our collection. After all, bespoke is a matter of uncompromised quality for the client; not a one-time experiment at their expense.

At our core, we are product developers; the strong creative energy and the urge to make something new is in constant conflict with our obsession to make something flawless. Our minds are never at ease, pacified a little only by our efforts to constantly improve. The moment of satisfaction after an improvement is short lived and so we keep pushing.

Our method of working as both, a design studio and a manufacturing unit, is unique. In-house design allows our manufacturing side to move far away from simply creating variations of old mid-century classics. In fact, we never replicate designs. We believe it is not in the best interest of the furniture industry and the culture of the Indian market. Unlike most, our designs leverage new age machines and manufacturing methods. It even improves upon traditional joinery which we use extensively to keep our furniture free of nails and screws.

The duality of our furniture design appeals to both the subtle and the bold. Our designs are simple, yet they flaunt a bold personality. They look young but boast the robust quality of the classics. Even with their perfect forms and smooth finish, they have a raw and natural feel.
